Ballymena United transfer is the right move for me and my family, says David McDaid

Ballymena United new boy David McDaid says joining David Jeffrey's Sky Blues for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday night is the “right” move for him and his young family.

The 31-year-old, who has signed a three year deal with the Braid club, conceded it had been a difficult decision to leave Inver Park.

But he believes a transfer from full-time Larne, where he has spent the past four years, to part-time United is the correct move at this stage of his career.

On Twitter, McDaid wrote: “Everyone knows what I think of Larne and how I feel. I love this place and I will continue to live here. This was right for me and more importantly my family.”

In another tweet, the gifted forward, who is currently on honeymoon with wife Faye, wrote alongside red and white heart emojis: “Some good things come to an end.”

However the former Derry City and Cliftonville striker is also relishing the latest chapter of his career and working under legendary Irish League boss Jeffrey.

Retweeting Ballymena United’s confirmation of his high-profile move to the Showgrounds, he wrote: “I can’t wait to get started.”

Meanwhile, Jeffrey told the Ballymena United website that he had concluded the McDaid deal while standing in a security queue travelling home from a holiday in Spain.

“It may be the ‘off season’ but when it comes to managing a club there is no break from football,” he said.

Jeffrey also promised more signings in the coming says with midfield one area of his team he is keen to strengthen in the wake of captain Leroy Millar’s recent departure to join Larne.
