Baker Mayfield: Browns DE Myles Garrett opens up about facing former QB in Week 1

Cleveland Browns defender Myles Garrett has been speaking about his intentions for Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield. 

The Cleveland Browns have entered a new era when it comes to the quarterback position, after they made the move to acquire Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans, giving him a 5-year, fully guaranteed, $230m contract to be their signal caller of the future and hopefully take the team over the top when it comes to their Super Bowl aspirations. 

However, that future is set to be on hold for the time being, as Watson was recently suspended for the first 11 games of the Browns season following the accusations of sexual misconduct that were placed against him for more than a year spanning back to when he was with the Texans. 

But whilst their future will have to wait, their past is set to pay them a visit very quickly in the form of quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Having been drafted with the #1 pick in 2018 NFL Draft, Mayfield was able to bring the Browns back to some form of relevancy during his time in Ohio. Before he arrived the team had won just one game in the two seasons combined before he arrived, but in 2020 he took the team to their first playoff win since the 1994 season.

2021 certainly could have gone better both in terms of performance and his health, as he missed a number of games due to a shoulder injury, and when he was available he didn’t put in the greatest of performances, throwing for a total of 3,010 yards and 17 touchdowns whilst completing just over 60% of his passes and throwing 13 interceptions, where his 6-8 record ensured the Browns would be out of the playoffs.
