Bake Off chaos as Alison Hammond steps in as emotional contestant says 'I quit'

The Great British Bake Off's latest episode nearly descended into mayhem when Georgie Grasso considered leaving amidst patisserie week's semi-final pressures.

In the face of a daunting challenge set by judge Paul Hollywood, to create an intricate opera cake featuring multiple layers, Georgie became visibly stressed. She told her fellow competitors "I quit".

Alison Hammond was on hand to provide solace and encouragement. Georgie, struggling with the recipe, exclaimed, "Oh my god I have done it wrong" and, confounded, stated, "I don't understand", as she brought her hands to her face in dismay.

At her breaking point, Georgie declared: "I'm going, I've had enough, I'm going. I just don't want to do it. I'm done", before showing visible distress and proclaiming: "I'm going to stand here until the end."

Offering a comforting embrace, Alison reassured the contestant, telling her: "Listen to me, I have been where you are, you can do it", reports Wales Online.

She continued to console Georgie, insisting: "Listen to me, I've been where you are, what you've just done, listen, this is what you're doing. You've put yourself into a 'I can't do this'. Listen to me, you've got this, a million percent."

Furthermore, she urged: "Please, I'm begging ya, get that negative and throw it away right now".

With Georgie replying simply "Yeah", Alison encouraged her confidence in baking the demanding cake. Georgie persevered, and though her opera cake was deemed the weakest, it was ultimately hailed as a valiant attempt.

Bake Off fans took to social media to express their support for contestants Georgie and Alison.

One viewer posted: "Poor Georgie, gone into full on panic mode where your brain just goes into a "no, I can't do anything" spiral.
