BAFTAs 2025 viewers plead 'make it stop' minutes into awards ceremony
David Tennant returned to host the 78th BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday (February 16) with a whole host of A-Listers in the audience, but viewers at home weren't best impressed.
The former Doctor Who star took the reigns of the 2025 Awards ceremony held at the Royal Festival Hall in London. As film stars and celebrities settled into their seats, they were treated to an opening performance by the host.
Viewers at home were taken aback as the British actor, 53, went around the audience urging several famous faces to join in a sing-a-long with him to The Proclaimers hit 'I Will Walk 500 miles' whilst wearing a kilt.
David changed the lyrics to sing “walked 500 miles just to host one BAFTAs more” and then in his opening speech, he touched on some controversial topics.
Following Donald Trump’s re-election in November 2024, David slammed the US president, reports the Express. Whilst commenting on The Brutalist, he said: "A film about incredible architecture. In fact, it’s the boldest architecture in film this year, apart from Donald Trump’s hair in The Apprentice."
However viewers at home begged him to stop as they took to X, formerly Twitter, minutes into his entrance. One viewer wrote: "That was embarrassing #BAFTAs #BAFTA2025."
A second agreed: "Make it stop, please, I beg you #Baftas," as another wrote: "Loving David Tennant, pure brilliant! But you know all the Americans are thinking, what the f**k is going on #BAFTAs."
A fourth added: "The whole audience is clapping and singing along, then you've got that one lady in the crowd who was like. She did not pass the vibe check. #TheBaftas #Baftas."
Another laughed: "No way has David Tennant just got Camila Cabello to sing 500 miles by the proclaimers #BAFTA2025 #Baftas."
