Bafana star Foster signs new long-term deal at Burnley, just 10 months after UK arrival

It has only been 10 months since he joined Burnley in England and now the Premier League outfit have tied Bafana Bafana star forward Lyle Foster to a fresh five-year deal, until June 2028.

In January, Burnley manager and legendary Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany personally flew to his native Belgium to ensure the deal could happen, and that was more than enough for Foster to bid farewell to K.V.C. Westerlo to play at the iconic Turf Moor grounds.

The transfer fee is reportedly in the vicinity of €7 million, with potential add-ons that could elevate it to €10 million. If these add-ons come to fruition, it would establish him as the most expensive player in South African football history.

He is already a Championship winner as Burnley powered their way to the 2022/23 title, securing their passage back to the Premier League. In England's top-flight, Foster has impressed, scoring three goals and setting up two more for the newly promoted side.

"Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce that striker Lyle Foster has signed a new five-year deal at Turf Moor," the club said in a statement.

"The South African striker has adjusted to life in the Premier League impressively, scoring three goals and grabbing two assists in seven games."

Foster added: "I'm very happy to stay here. It's a club with very good people and I have really enjoyed working here and I'm pleased to extend my stay.

"The supporters, Turf Moor, everything here, the way we organise ourselves and our standards is something I fell in love with.
