Bad congestion in Cardiff as drivers try to head home on Friday
There were long delays on the A4232 getting out of Cardiff this afternoon, after a breakdown. It was first reported as an accident but later confirmed as a breakdown on the northbound carriageway between Leckwith and Culverhouse Cross. Congestion was back to Cardiff Bay.
One motorist described the route as "gridlocked" and reported seeing a fire engine making its way to the scene. You can get more traffic and travel news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.
But roads in Wales were already expected to be busy this afternoon in the lead up to Christmas, and an incident not long before rush hour led to knock-on effects across Cardiff, with other routes seeing their own congestion issues.
It comes just two nights after similar gridlock was reported in Cardiff, also possibly linked to a breakdown on the A4232 northbound. Drivers reported normally short journeys of just minutes taking more than an hour. You can read more about that here.
