"Back a little bit earlier" - Keith Downie drops NUFC injury claim involving Trippier and Wilson

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is likely to return from injury a little bit earlier than Kieran Trippier, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Both players have been sidelined, with the former now reportedly working towards an April return.

Football Insider recently reported that Wilson is making good progress in his recovery from a calf injury and is looking to make his comeback in Newcastle’s clash against Norwich City towards the end of next month.

The 30-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Bournemouth for £20m, has been out of action since picking up that calf injury in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United back in December.

Eddie Howe’s men, however, have managed to cope just fine without their first-choice striker. They recently went on a run of nine games without defeat, with that streak of not losing only coming to an end after a last-minute Kai Havertz strike last weekend.

Newcastle now find themselves out of the relegation zone and in a very good position considering where they once were.

Downie has told GIVEMESPORT that Wilson could return to action before Trippier, who is currently out with a broken metatarsal, though Howe may decide against rushing the pair back given how well the team are doing at present.

Speaking to GMS, the Sky Sports journalist said: “I think we might see Wilson back a little bit earlier [than Trippier]. But I think because the team are doing so well at the moment, there’s not a need to rush them back.”
