Luke Edwards drops huge Newcastle United claim that'll excite Eddie Howe - opinion

Newcastle United have been handed a major injury update on Callum Wilson’s potential return this season.

The England international has been out of action for Eddie Howe’s side in recent weeks, but according to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, is closing in on a comeback at St James’ Park.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “UPDATE Wilson has an outside chance of being involved against Wolves if his Achilles has no adverse reaction to training. But think it’s far more likely kept back for Palace and/or Norwich.”

That followed on from news earlier in the week from Howe himself, who said: “Callum’s injury, you have to be very careful with, that we don’t push him back too quickly and he ends up injuring himself again because the Achilles/calf is a very delicate area of the body and you need to make sure it’s robust enough to withstand heavy load.”

While the game against Tottenham appears to come too soon for Wilson – it will be the Magpies’ first fixture back from the internatonal break – news of Wilson’s impending return for potentially the clash at home to Wolves on April 8 is a huge boon for Howe.

With six goals in 15 games for the Tyneside club, the striker is the only real out-and-out goal-scorer for the club, with Chris Wood providing more of a foil for his teammates rather than being a predatory fox in the box.

Though the Magpies have coped well without him and have created some distance between themselves and the rest of the relegation pack, this added boost in Wilson’s return will have the St James’ Park faithful buzzing.

It’s a comeback that is sure to have Howe delighted at working with his former Bournemouth charge once again, and he could provide that final clinical touch up top to spark an exciting end to the Premier
