Azerbaijan GP: Verstappen's blowout, Hamilton's victory-costing error - the 2021 race was a modern classic

Formula 1 is back in Baku this weekend as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix provides the setting for round eight of the 2022 world championship.

The season so far has been one of quality racing and fine drama, with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc setting the early pace in the championship, whilst Sergio Perez is far from out of contention after a superb performance in Monaco.

Indeed, we’ve got another intriguing championship battle on our hands and, hopefully, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix this weekend will provide another dramatic, entertaining twist in the 2022 tale.

Certainly, if it’s anything like the 2021 edition we’ll have enough twists to give a blockbuster thriller a run for its money, though that was pretty much par for the course last season.

Indeed, the Azerbaijan GP last year was one of the more dramatic Grand Prix weekends, which is some going considering how the campaign played out, with both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton leaving Baku without a single point to show for their efforts.

The drama truly began, of course, in the closing stages with Verstappen suffering a blowout to throw him into the wall and out of the lead of the Grand Prix:
