AZ Alkmaar hero in Dundee United 'humiliation' admission as he reveals revenge mode

AZ Alkmaar hero Tijjani Reijnders has revaled his side were out to humiliate Dundee United because they couldn't believe they had lost at Tannadice last week.

Jack Ross' side were thrashed 7-0 by AZ in the Netherlands on Thursday which saw the Tayside outfit crash out of the Europa Conference League qualifiers. Despite taking a one goal advantage on their travel following a Glenn Middleton wonderstrike at Tannadice last week, it wasn't nearly enough. It took the Dutch side just 21 minutes to level the aggregate scoring, with four more going by Birighitti in the United goal before the break.

And amid the flurry of goals, Tijjani Reijnders helped himself to a double before the half time whistle before Wit and Lahdo added two more to the total before the 90 minutes were up. And the AZ midfielder has insisted his side could have scored even more.

Following the clash, Reijnders said: "I am puzzled how we managed to lose the first leg in Scotland. After last week, we wanted revenge. We had a bad day at the office. We couldn't wait to play them again to be honest. We were excellent and could have got more goals."

And teammate Riechedly Bazoer reckons the slow pace of the game in Dundee hampered them. He explained: "In Scotland, the game was played very slowly. But we increased the tempo hugely at home.

"And Dundee United couldn't keep up with that anymore. We scored some great goals. Yes, there was pressure going into the game, but we did well."
