Awful Liverpool stat shows Man United need one of last season's undroppables more than ever

Marcus Rashford scored 30 goals for Manchester United last season, including 17 in the Premier League as he picked up the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award and the Players' Player of the Year award. Erik ten Hag even challenged him to reach 40 goals this season.

However, we're almost halfway through the campaign and Rashford has only scored two goals in all competitions. Rashford has been dropped from the starting line-up in United's last four games, with Ten Hag admitting he may need a "kick in the ass".

The need for Rashford to return to form was highlighted by the goals in United’s starting line-up at Anfield on Sunday. With Bruno Fernandes suspended, the Reds’ inexperienced front six had only scored a combined 25 Premier League goals, with Rasmus Højlund, Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo yet to score for United in the league.

Two of Liverpool’s defenders, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, have six more Premier League goals combined than all of the United's starting midfield and attack.

Rashford, when playing well, is one of the best forwards in Europe. He has scored 125 club goals at the age of 26. Last season he won the Premier League Player of the Month three times, was voted the PFA Fans' Player of the Year and was top goalscorer in the Europa League.

United simply do not have any attacking players, apart from possibly Fernandes, who have reached the heights that Rashford has.
