Avs acquire F Lehkonen from Canadiens

The Colorado Avalanche have acquired forward Artturi Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenceman Justin Barron and a second-round pick, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.

He has 13 goals and 29 points in 58 games this season. 

Lehkonen has spent his entire six-year NHL career with the Canadiens. Drafted in the second round (55th overall) by Montreal in 2013, the 26-year-old notoriously had the overtime winner in Game 6 against the Vegas Golden Knights to send the Canadiens to the team’s first Stanley Cup Finals appearance since 1993.

Internationally, Lehkonen won gold with Finland at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships in Malmo, Sweden.

He is on a one-year, $2.3 million contract and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
