Atalanta issue Rasmus Højlund update amid Manchester United transfer interest

Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini admits that the Italian club will find it "impossible" to reject big-money bids for Manchester United transfer target Rasmus Højlund this forthcoming summer.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News at the end of last month, United are keeping tabs on the highly-rated Denmark international. The club plans to recruit a new striker ahead of next season and are keeping their options open, although Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane is Erik ten Hag's primary target.

Højlund, who only turned 20 in February, joined Atalanta from Austrian outfit SK Sturm Graz last summer and has scored eight goals in 29 appearances, as well as registering three assists. He also marked his full debut for Denmark last month by scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Finland before scoring twice against Kazakhstan a few days later.

The Dane has been dubbed the 'new Erling Haaland', meaning excitement levels surrounding his potential have immediately increased. He is also a self-proclaimed United fan.

Several clubs are reportedly chasing his signature ahead of the summer and Atalanta chief Gasperini has confirmed that they will find it hard to keep hold of him in the event of big-money bids landing in their inbox.

"I haven't seen so many strikers as good as Højlund at 20," said Gasperini. "He can improve a lot, he's great.

"Top European clubs are always attentive to this kind of top talents. There could be some huge bids for him that would be impossible to reject for us."
