Aston Villa ‘would like to sign’ 44-goal midfielder at Villa Park

Aston Villa could look to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek during the January transfer window, although they will face competition from ‘two or three’ other clubs, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Steven Gerrard spent more than £60 million on new recruits in the summer but could be set to invest further at the turn of the year.

According to 90min, United have granted the 25-year-old permission to depart once the January transfer window opens for business.

The report adds that Van de Beek is most likely to seal a loan move away with former club Ajax interested in bringing him back to his homeland along with a number of Premier League sides.

There is also understood to be interest from elsewhere in Europe with Italian giants Inter Milan pondering a move for the 19-cap Netherlands international.

However, Erik ten Hag has recently hinted that he could yet play a part for the Red Devils once he has recovered from his current injury troubles, having cost the club £40 million back in 2020.

Jones understands that Villa could be an option for Van de Beek once the January window opens.

The journalist says that Gerrard is in need of a midfield solution but that other clubs will be battling for the Netherlands international’s signature.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “There are other options that will become available to Van de Beek. Clubs like Aston Villa, who need a fix right now, and by the time we get to January, I’m sure there’ll be two or three others that would like to sign him.”
