Aston Villa star paid the ultimate compliment with Man City comparison

Former Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott has compared Jacob Ramsey to his former Manchester City teammate Yaya Toure after an excellent breakout season within the Premier League.

Ramsey, 20, recorded six goals and one assist throughout the 2021/22 campaign which saw him start 29 games for Villa, as he quickly accelerated from a young prospect to one of the first names on the team sheet for Steven Gerrard.

His performances were rewarded with a new bumper contract for the England U21 international, which will see him remain in claret and blue until 2027 - a deal which will be of great importance to Villa after former defender Lescott outlined the 'talent' the player has.

Speaking in his latest column for Live Score, Lescott compared the ability of Ramsey to Manchester City legend Toure and outlined how he is 'looking forward' to seeing more from the midfielder next season. He said: "Finally, one player I’m really looking forward to seeing more of next season is Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.

"Having worked with him at England Under-21 level, I’ve seen up close how much talent he has. The way he glides past players so effortlessly, he reminds me of my former team-mate Yaya Toure.

"He has one of England’s greatest ever midfielders in Steven Gerrard overseeing his development and is extremely willing to learn and improve — no wonder Villa fans are so excited by him."
