Aston Villa set to 'officially' complete Rory Wilson transfer as striker plan outlined

Rangers starlet Rory Wilson is set to ‘officially’ join Aston Villa on Saturday, according to reports.

Wilson had captured Villa’s attention after scoring a phenomenal 49 goals for club and country last season. Having excelled for Rangers’ youth sides, he completed his goals tally for the season while representing Scotland at the U17 Euros in May.

Villa had been reportedly targeting a move for Wilson for several months , with the club finally appearing to have sealed a move for the youngster in June, despite allegedly facing competition from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. Wilson seemingly confirmed his move to Villa Park after responding to reports on social media.

Earlier this week, reports in Scotland alleged that the striker had checked in to complete his medical in Glasgow, ahead of his move south of the border. It was reported that Villa had agreed a £350,000 deal for the forward, after earlier claims of a dispute over the fee, which could potentially rise to £1million.

In a further update, football journalist Jordan Campbell of The Athletic stated on Twitter that Wilson will ‘officially complete his move’ on Saturday. Campbell confirmed that the forward had undergone his medical as part of the £350,000 move and was travelling to Birmingham on Friday.

The Athletic reporter also outlined that Villa plan for Wilson to initially ‘start with the U23s’ next term. This would be a step up for the teenager, who won the Scottish Youth Cup last season and only turned 16 in January, having represented the U18 side for Rangers.
