Aston Villa old boy at centre of transfer battle
Derby County and Huddersfield Town are in a battle to sign former Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane this summer, according to reports.
Hourihane, 31, signed for Villa from Barnsley in 2017 for around £3.15 million and went on to make over 150 appearances in claret and blue, including playing a vital role in the club's promotion back to the Premier League in 2019.
The Republic of Ireland international fell out of favour at Villa Park in recent seasons, as he pursued loan moves to Swansea City and Sheffield United in search of regular game time. His contract at Villa has since expired, therefore, allowing Hourihane to depart the club as a free agent this summer.
