Aston Villa set to learn Manchester City decision as fresh Rodrigo Bentancur bid claimed

Aston Villa have a few days to further add to Steven Gerrard’s squad - with plenty of talk centred on the situation at defensive midfield.

Marvelous Nakamba’s injury and speculation about Douglas Luiz’s future has set the rumour mill into over-drive.

Villa have been linked with several contenders, including Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria, Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and, more recently, Juventus’ Rodrigo Bentancur.

There’s also talk of Arsenal fancying a couple of Villa players. This is the state of play on all the transfer gossip.

Ligue 1 side Lyon are now said to be in discussions with Juventus for a potential transfer for Rodrigo Bentancur.

Villa have reportedly seen their first bid rejected by the Italian giants as they attempt to bring the player to Villa Park before Monday’s deadline.

Now there could be another complication for Villa with Bruno Guimarães’ imminent move to Newcastle leaving Lyon in search of a replacement. Reports suggest they have turned to Bentancur.

Spurs are also said to be interested in the Uruguay international.

That could force Villa into a bidding war for Bentancur

Villa are claimed to be preparing another offer, and Sky Sports Italy says the clubs are ‘not that far apart’.

On the positive side, Juve are scouring for possible replacements, and The Guardian claims they are monitoring Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria, and Cagliari’s Nahitan Nández, as potential replacements.

Coincidentally Zakaria was also thought to be of interest to Villa earlier in this window.
