Aston Villa latest news: 'Quite exciting' claim emerges on £41m Villa Park duo

The prospect of Matty Cash and Lucas Digne playing full-back for Aston Villa is a ‘quite exciting’ possibility for the club’s supporters, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

New manager Steven Gerrard significantly strengthened his first-team squad during the January transfer window, adding Digne and Philippe Coutinho from Everton and Barcelona, respectively.

What is the latest news involving Aston Villa?

Both of Villa’s new signings have already made telling contributions on the pitch, with Coutinho scoring on his debut to equalise against Manchester United.

Although the 24-year-old isn’t quite as prolific as Digne in the final third, notching up four goal contributions in 51 outings for the Villans since arriving for £16 million in 2020, he still produces a very telling impact.

Cash ranks in the 95th percentile for interceptions, the 93rd for blocks and 90th for clearances amongst players in his position over the last year, as per FBref.com.

What has Crook said about Digne and Cash?

Villa pounced on the opportunity to bring Digne to the club after his fallout with ex-boss Rafa Benitez, snapping the LOSC Lille academy graduate up for £25m.
