Aston Villa sent Yves Bissouma transfer warning after Steven Gerrard comments on Brighton star

Aston Villa have been warned that they won't be the only club monitoring Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma ahead of the summer transfer window opening in July.

Steven Gerrard has revealed that Villa were indeed unsuccessful in their efforts to tempt the south coast club into a sale in January, while the Athletic report that Brighton turned down a £35million bid for the midfielder.

And the Villa boss has hinted that he will revisit a move for Bissouma at the next opportunity.

“I won’t be a manager who will try to be wasteful or compromise in certain situations and go down the list because I believe our fans and this club deserves the right people in the right positions," he said.

"If that’s the case and we have to be patient then we’ll do it.

“The support I’ve had during the first window and since I walked in the door has been brilliant and I really appreciate that. We will keep analysing the squad and if we feel we need support in that area we’ll look for the right target.

“We won’t compromise and try to find Plan B, C, D or E. We’ll keep pushing and try to get the right person.”

But former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson claims that Bissouma could be playing for a Champions League club at the start of the 2022/23 season, warning Villa that they won't be the only suitors.

The Mali international has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Brighton this season and scored his first goal of the campaign in a 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last time out.
