Aston Villa’s transfer stance revealed over potential deal for Burnley player

James Tarkowski is set to leave Burnley in the coming weeks when his contract expires, but he won’t be joining Aston Villa.

The centre-back has been a reliable figure for the Clarets over the years, however a departure this summer has been inevitable after the club were unable to agree fresh terms with the England international.

Relegation to the Championship further enforced the fact Tarkowski would be departing, and several clubs have been linked with the 29-year-old recently.

One of those is Villa, who are making serious moves in the market as they look to back Steven Gerrard. But, the Express & Star have revealed that Tarkowski is no longer on their radar.

That’s because the West Midlands outfit are bringing in Sevilla defender Diego Carlos in a £26m move, which will impact the need for another centre-back, as well as the budget available to Gerrard.

The likes of Everton and Fulham have also been credited with a strong interest in Tarkowski, who will be a free agent in the coming weeks.

The verdict

This seemed like a good move for Tarkowski on paper as Villa are an ambitious club where he would have appeared to be a good fit.

So, this is a blow to him but it still seems as though the player will have a few Premier League clubs offering him a deal as he looks to remain in the top-flight.

From Burnley’s perspective, they knew this day was coming and whilst it’s disappointing to lose Tarkowski for nothing, they will appreciate all he did for the club over the years.
