Aston Villa's Emi Martinez reveals talks with doctors over 'a bit of pain'

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has insisted he is 'absolutely fine' after missing the fixture against Manchester City on the final day of the season.

Martinez, 29, was replaced by Robin Olsen in the starting line-up for the final fixture of the 2021/22 season at the Etihad Stadium, with the game finishing 3-2 to Pep Guardiola's side on the afternoon.

The Argentinian number one has faced a quick turnover from club football to international duty, as he prepares to face Italy at Wembley Stadium this evening for the Finalissima.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Martinez has provided fans with an update on his fitness following the injury concern which kept him out of the City game. Where he said: “I don’t need anything. There is a bit of pain but I’ve had it since I was 17.

“I’ve been playing for two or three years without stopping but I have been discussing it with the doctors at the national team and I will be back for pre-season with Aston Villa on July 7. I’m absolutely fine.”
