Aston Villa release eight players as Steven Gerrard squad overhaul continues

Aston Villa have confirmed the release of eight players as Steven Gerrard continues to shape the club in his image throughout his first pre-season in charge.

Villa have already confirmed the exit of left-back Matt Targett as he completed a permanent transfer to Newcastle United after a successful loan spell in a deal worth up to £15 million and have since announced eight further departures throughout the first team and academy sides.

The Premier League have released a statement including all the released players from clubs following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season but have noted that players signified as a "free transfer" or released by a club on the expiry of their contract on 30 June 2022 could still remain at that club next season, therefore outlining that the list should not be seen as definitive for players leaving their club.
