Aston Villa: Gerrard 'unlikely' to sign 436-goal icon at Villa Park
Aston Villa are unlikely to sign legendary striker Luis Suarez this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
Steven Gerrard has made a productive start to the window and is now targeting a move for his former Liverpool teammate, who’ll become a free agent once his Atletico Madrid deal expires later this month.
Clearly disappointed with Villa’s 14th place finish last season, Gerrard is doing his best to put things right and has already added four players to his squad in the shape of Coutinho, Diego Carlos, Robin Olsen and Boubacar Kamara.
But the Villa boss is clearly far from done and is interested in reuniting with Suarez at Villa Park.
According to The Athletic, the Uruguayan international, who’s scored an incredible 436 goals at club level, 69 of which came playing alongside Gerrard in the Premier League, is ‘under consideration’.
The report states that Suarez has been in regular contract with Gerrard since the January window and can be signed for nothing following his release from Atletico, although the 35-year-old still has other options to consider before deciding on his future.
However, Crook has been informed that Suarez and Gerrard linking up at Villa Park is “unlikely”.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I was told Suarez is unlikely by somebody I trust up in the Midlands. And actually, does Steven Gerrard have to be careful about not turning Villa into a Liverpool tribute act? And I think he’ll be aware of that.”

Despite already having two goalscorers in his ranks in Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins, the former has been linked away from Villa, which could force Gerrard to replace him.
