Premier League announce Chelsea's retained list as contract extensions confirmed
Chelsea have announced their retained list following the 2021/22 season. The Blues earlier announced that Andreas Christensen, Danny Drinkwater, Jake Clarke-Salter and Charly Musonda would be leaving the club.
A number of Chelsea players were set to be out of contract this summer including Cesar Azpilicueta, who saw his contract extended after triggering an appearance clause, while the Blues have offered deals to Ethan Wady and Xavier Simons. understands the latter has agreed a deal, however. Development squad players Thierno Ballo, George McEachran and Karlo Žiger all appear to have departed.
Chelsea entered the season with Azpilicueta, Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva all in the final 12 months of their contract. Silva saw his deal extended in January, while Rudiger's free transfer to Real Madrid had already been confirmed.
The Blues saw the period in which they could negotiate deals truncated after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government. That resulted in the west London side operating under a special licence which saw them unable to agree new contracts or transfers.
