Aston Villa 'progress' with transfer after January window shuts
Aston Villa winger Trezeguet is expected to complete a move to Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir this week.
The 27-year-old Egypt international was made available for transfer last month and with the Turkish window closing on February 8, his move back to the Super Lig could be finalised in a matter of days.
Basaksehir head coach Emre Belezoglu has confirmed a deal to bring Trezeguet back to Turkey is progressing.
“We want to expand the player pool in a way that will benefit us,” Belezoglu told Yeni Safak.
“Yes, we had an initiative related to (Bestikas winger) Adem Ljajic. But then the move progressed in a way we didn’t want, so we gave up on the transfer.
“There is also progress on Trezeguet, who plays for Aston Villa."
Trezeguet returned to first-team action at the start of January after suffering an ACL injury back in April as Villa lost 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield.
Following an eight month injury lay-off, he came off the bench in Villa's defeat to Brentford on January 2.
He joined the club in a deal worth £9million from Turkish club Kasimpasa in the summer of 2019 and has made 64 total appearances in claret and blue, scoring nine goals in two-and-a-half years at Villa Park.
