Aston Villa man details Steven Gerrard game plan ahead of Burnley

Jacob Ramsey was quick to put his hand up in apology in the Aston Villa dressing room on Sunday after conceding the free-kick which led to Crystal Palace's late equaliser. The midfielder came on for the final 20 minutes and injected some momentum in Villa's play, teeing up Lucas Digne prior to Ollie Watkins' opener.

However, afterwards, Gerrard was quick to tell his players how they must cut out conceding cheap free-kicks, especially when set-piece specialists Burnley rock up at Villa Park on Thursday. "It was two points lost but, as the gaffer said in [the dressing room], we've got a big game against Burnley on Thursday," Ramsey told . "We conceded today from a set-piece and Burnley are known for their set-pieces so we've got to sort that, right."

On yesterday's 1-1 draw, Ramsey added: "First half they caused us a few problems but, at half-time, the gaffer and his coaching staff came in and sorted them out. I thought in the second half, after the goal, we were excellent at keeping the ball.

"Obviously, I gave away a sloppy free-kick and they scored off a second phase from that. That was disappointing. We should be winning that game 1-0 or 2-0, with the chances we had in the first half especially."

Last week, Ramsey picked up young player of the year as well as players' player of the year after a standout campaign, scoring six times from his 32 appearances in the Premier League. "For me, personally, it's been a good season but, as a team, we've been a little bit inconsistent," Ramsey outlined on his 2021/22 campaign. "Hopefully next season I can continue my form and we can get higher up the table."
