Aston Villa injury latest as Steven Gerrard dealt triple blow for Arsenal

Aston Villa return to action when they play Arsenal on Saturday (12.30pm).

Steven Gerrard's Villa saw their winning run come to an end on Sunday when they lost 2-1 to West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Villa had beaten Brighton and Hove Albion, Southampton and Leeds United in the run up to Sunday's game but David Moyes' side brought them back down to earth.

That game at West Ham came at a cost to Villa in terms of injuries with Lucas Digne having to come off for Ashley Young ten minutes in with a hamstring problem.

Douglas Luiz also felt the effects of a physical battle when he took a boot to the face while Calum Chambers is set to be checked on with a similar injury.

"He says it is a small muscle injury," Gerrard said of Digne.

"We will analyse it with an MRI scan. I am positive in what Lucas has said to me but he is obviously a major doubt for the Arsenal game.

"Elsewhere, Calum is in a similar situation to Dougie off a forearm smash. There are a lot of ice packs about as well. It goes to show it was a tough physical game."
