Aston Villa: 'Gerrard pull' could bring 436-goal star to Villa Park

Aston Villa being linked with Luis Suarez will “excite” the Villa Park faithful, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Steven Gerrard is keen on a reunion with his former Liverpool teammate, who’ll become a free agent when his deal with Atletico Madrid expires later this month.

Villa’s interest in the legendary striker first came about in January, although The Athletic believe that Gerrard’s side are still monitoring the situation.

The report states that Suarez is still ‘under consideration’, with the Uruguay international in ‘regular’ contact with the Villa manager since January.

Meanwhile, Suarez is said to be weighing up his options and will discuss the matter with his family before deciding on the next move in his career.

The 35-year-old has been one of the top strikers in European football for the last decade, and while he’s in the latter years of his career, he’s still scored 34 goals across the last two seasons with Atletico.

Suarez also has an incredible record in the Premier League, scoring 69 goals and chipping in with 39 assists in just 110 top-flight appearances.

Overall, he’s scored 436 club goals and Holland reckons Gerrard could prove the key man in a deal to bring Suarez to the Midlands, having already convinced Philippe Coutinho to join permanently from Barcelona.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s only realistic because of the Steven Gerrard pull and obviously his contract is expiring in Spain, so you wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee, but his wages could become a problem.

“Being linked with Luis Suarez will excite Villa fans, but there’s a few players that I would like to come in over Suarez that would cost a bit more, although you’d have them for a longer amount of time.”
