Aston Villa 'feeling cursed' after 48-cap star's injury at Villa Park

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard will be ‘feeling cursed’ after Ludwig Augustinsson became the latest Villa Park star to suffer an injury, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The likes of Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara have already been forced onto the sidelines with ligament injuries in recent weeks, but Gerrard has been forced to contend with another setback.

Villa parted with more than £60million during the summer transfer window and Augustinsson was among the new recruits.

The left-back joined on an initial loan deal, worth £500,000, from La Liga giants Sevilla and the agreement includes the option of being made permanent.

Augustinsson, who revealed he held talks with Gerrard and sporting director Johan Lange before deciding to join a club ‘going in the right direction’, had to wait until Sunday to make his debut.

But his Villa bow did not go to plan as he picked up a yellow card within the opening six minutes of the goalless stalemate with Leeds United and was forced off with a hamstring problem before the interval.

Gerrard hinted that Augustinsson, 28, could be set for a lengthy spell on the treatment table as the injury has left him ‘fearing the worst’.

Jones believes Augustinsson’s injury will have left Gerrard frustrated after already being made to contend with a number of players being unavailable during the early stages of the season.

The journalist feels Villa have been out of luck and they are desperate for an upturn in fortunes.

When asked how Gerrard will have reacted to Augustinsson’s injury setback, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It must feel like a bit of a curse.

“Villa really could do with some luck because not much is going their way.”
