Aston Oxborough agrees new Motherwell contract as club set to open contract talks with a string of Fir Park stars

Motherwell have agreed a new deal with Aston Oxborough - as they look to kick-off a number of extension talks for a number of their first-team stars.

The big keeper has come in and made the No.1 spot his own this season and is set to pen a deal until the summer of 2027. The 26-year-old moved to Fir Park from Norwich City two years ago and was handed the gloves when Liam Kelly left for Rangers in the summer.

Oxborough has come in and established himself and manager Stuart Kettlewell made it his priority to get his current deal extended beyond the summer. Motherwell chief executive Brian Caldwell has confirmed talks have kicked off with a number of players, whose deals are set to expire at the end of the season.

Dan Casey, Davor Zdravkovski and Scotland under-21 cap Ewan Wilson are amongst a number of key players who are set to become free agents in the summer. The club have options on captain Paul McGinn, Tawanda Maswanhise and Steve Seddon’s existing deals.

Caldwell confirmed: “That has been on-going. I am a great believer for when the window closes, we start to look at who is out of contract at the end of the season or before that. We look at the players and who should we be starting to talk to? We have a number of players who are out of contract at the end of the season.

“Probably not as many as we had last season. There have been a lot of on-going discussions. “These things don’t happen overnight. “You have got to get a feel for the player and whether they are open to an extension of contact. “It is then a case of trying to negotiate with the agent to get an extension. “We are quite hopeful, very, very soon we can tie a few of them to give us a bit of continuity and get that done early.”
