Asian Cup live updates: Matildas take on South Korea in must-win quarterfinal

The Matildas have reached the pointy end of the Asian Cup after sailing comfortably through the group stage, tallying a tournament-high 24 goals, including seven to captain Sam Kerr.

However, a late goal to Thailand in the third group match showed that Australia still has some defensive weaknesses that opposition teams can exploit in crucial moments.

The Matildas now take on heavyweights South Korea, who showed they're no push-overs after drawing 1-1 with reigning champions Japan in their final group game.

Will the Koreans capitalise on Australia's historically shaky defence and keep their attacking players at bay? Or do the Matildas simply have too much firepower up front for one of Asia's «big four» nations to handle?

While this prediction isn't doing good things for my anxiety, I do think tonight's game will be much tighter than the past three games Australia have played.

South Korea have a much more resolute and organised defensive unit than Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, and with arguably much more powerful attacking players than those lesser-ranked nations, too.

I do love the Cortnee Vine shout. She's been sensational in her appearances for the Matildas so far, whether she's started or come off the bench. Her sizzling speed, her bravery in taking on players, her dangerous deliveries into the box — if Australia finds themselves locked at 0-0, she could be just the player needed to crack things open.
