Asda opens its first Express store in Manchester city centre

Supermarket giant Asda has opened its first Express store in Manchester city centre. Asda Express welcomed its first shoppers on Oxford Road on Wednesday.

The convenience store is the retailer’s sixth standalone Asda Express site in the UK as the chain seeks to expand its reach. The shop is located on a busy commuter route and is close to both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan, making it a practical location for students to do their shopping.

Stocking over 3,000 products, the Asda Express has a range of needs covered, from food-to-go to store cupboard staples. It has created 26 new jobs in the city.

On Tuesday, the retailer also opened a store on Chapel Street, Salford, creating a further 15 jobs. Asda plans to launch a further 300 Express stores by the end of 2026.
