'As in the... like the Ryan Giggs?': Jurors played 999 call made after ex-United player allegedly headbutted former partner

Jurors have heard a 999 call made after Ryan Giggs allegedly headbutted his former partner. Evidence continued to be heard at Manchester Crown Court on the fifth day of the former Manchester United star's trial.

He has pleaded not guilty to displaying controlling or coercive behaviour towards Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020, and denies headbutting Ms Greville and assaulting her sister Emma Greville during an incident on November 1, 2020.

The jury heard two 999 calls made by Emma Greville on the evening of November 1, 2020. The first was placed at 10.05pm lasting four minutes and 50 seconds, with the second at 10.11pm, which lasted five minutes and 17 seconds.

'Screaming' and crying could be heard at times during the call. During the 999 call Ms Greville claimed that Mr Giggs was 'going to headbutt me too'.

When asked who was responsible for the alleged assault, Emma Greville said: "Ryan Giggs, footballer Ryan Giggs." The call handler replied: "Ok, as in the, like the Ryan Giggs?"

A police officer who attended the scene said he could see 'straight away' that Kate Greville had a 'swollen top and bottom lip with significant bruising'. He said that Mr Giggs had 'blood around his mouth'.
