Arsene Wenger's £11m Arsenal blueprint can lay foundation for Mikel Arteta's summer revolution

Arsenal and the transfer window has been a running joke amongst rivals for too long and finally, something is being done to address the bad decisions in the market and ensure that money is spent wisely.

There were no senior additions to the Arsenal squad during the January transfer window which frustrated many supporters, especially considering the opportunity the club has to fight for the top four.

However, the club avoided panicking on players who would not have helped or overspending on others whose value was not reflected in the asking price. It could cost Arsenal a top-four place, but the risk to the long terminology of the plan could have been even more damaging.

Interestingly, however, the club is taking steps to address the needs of the squad ahead of next season already.

Arsenal have agreed on a deal with New England Revolution to sign goalkeeper Matt Turner for a fee in the region of £4.5 million which could rise to £7.5 million based on performance-related bonuses understands.

Matt Turner will be the replacement for Bernd Leno who is expected to depart in the summer after losing his place in the starting eleven to Aaron Ramsdale. Turner is a couple of years younger than Leno and is considered the MLS’ top goalkeeper.

Should Arsenal qualify for Europe, Turner will likely participate in the continental fixtures as well as the cup competitions.

The deal strikes similarities to Arsenal’s £11m agreement to sign Lukas Podolski from Cologne in March of 2012. The German international was a well-known figure in the Bundesliga after an early high profile move to Bayern Munich.
