Arsene Wenger makes Mike Dean admission after famous Old Trafford dismissal vs Manchester United

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has opened up on that incident at Old Trafford against Manchester United back in 2009.

After kicking a bottle on the touchline, the French tactician was sent to the stands during their battle with Sir Alex Ferguson's side. Referee Mike Dean - who is due to retire at the end of the season - sent Wenger off, leaving him bewildered in the stands as he was left to watch the remainder of the clash amongst the United fans.

Dean recently claimed that the 72-year-old was one of the most intimidating managers he encountered. But to his day, Wenger can't let the incident during their defeat to United go - 13 years on.

"I'm not very proud of that (being named most intimidating manager)," he said, speaking to beIN Sports. "He (Dean) still doesn't know why (he sent me off).

"When I was standing in the middle of the stand... I didn't know where to go, he told me where I could go and when I went up they told me I had to go up to the stand, when I went up to the stand there was no free seat - I had a double problem.

"First of all, I didn't know why I was sent off and nobody could explain it to me because they apologised after that. As well as that, I didn't know where to go."
