Glen Johnson has warned Mikel Arteta that Arsenal still need five more players - including a top striker - before they're in a position to challenge for the Premier League title again.

Arsenal were a mainstay at the summit of English football during the late 90s and early 2000s under Arsene Wenger, but the Gunners have fallen on hard times since the Frenchman stepped down. However, under Arteta, the Londoners are on track to finally muscle their way back into the Champions League after a multi-year absence from Europe's premier competition.

Arteta's charges are currently in fourth spot, a point ahead of Manchester United in the race for the final Champions League berth - but crucially, the Gunners have three games in hand on Ralf Rangnick's side. Their top-four credentials will be put to the ultimate test when they tackle Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Johnson, who spent six years on the books at Anfield during his playing career, has backed the Reds to get the job done in midweek. But he believes that the fixture isn't the foregone conclusion it may have been had the crunch clash taken place a couple of months ago.
