Arsenal target Arthur Melo will stay at Juventus, says Massimiliano Allegri

Juventus have dealt a blow to Arsenal’s hopes of signing Arthur Melo as Massimiliano Allegri claims the midfielder will be staying at the club this month.

The Gunners have held talks with the Brazilian’s agent and are keen to sign the 25-year-old on loan before the January transfer window closes.

Arthur has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal and wants to make the move to the Premier League.

Juventus, however, have been reluctant to give the deal the green light without bringing in a replacement.

And now Juve manager Allegri is adamant that Arthur will not be leaving.

‘The team is this and it will remain like this,’ said Allegri.

‘Let’s not forget that Arthur has come back from six months of inactivity, he needed to find time and he’s now performing well.

‘Arthur’s talent is not in dispute, he needs certain players by his side. Arthur’s part of Brazil national team, he’s an important player.’

Meanwhile, Arteta insisted this week that Arsenal are doing everything they can to bolster his squad before the transfer window is over.

‘The team are working extremely hard to get the players that we want and we have no news to give you,’ said the Arsenal manager.

‘We have a plan to try to bring players in and try to get the players we want with the right qualities and improve the squad in the best possible way every single window.’
