Juventus boss Max Allegri provides update on Arthur Melo's mood after failed Arsenal move

Arthur Melo has a new lease of life following his failed move to Arsenal, according to Juventus boss Max Allegri.

The Brazilian appeared to be on the verge of leaving the Serie A club as they had somewhat of a mass exodus last month with the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur joining Tottenham, as well as Aaron Ramsay sealing a loan move to Rangers.

Arsenal were close to bringing the plyamker to the Emirates as they looked for a central midfielder during the winter window.

A move failed to materialise, however, despite a productive meeting between the player's agent and sporting director Edu.

Arthur was also said to be keen on a switch to the Gunners and was optimistic about Mikel Arteta's project at the club.

It collapsed as an agreement could not be reached between the two clubs.

Arsenal wanted to take the former Barcelona midfielder on loan for six months, but Juve either wanted an 18-month deal or some form of an option to buy to be included.

This was something Arsenal weren't open to because they were planning to use those funds on a new striker as a deal for Dusan Vlahovic was still in the pipeline before the Serbian joined Juve.

It appears Arthur is not dwelling on what could have been, however, as he impressed in Juventus ’ 2-0 over Hellas Verona.

And Allegri has praised the energy he displayed during the 90 minutes and his "extraordinary" technical abilities.

"Arthur is improving, he played very well on Sunday," said the Juve boss.

“He’s like a child, always running behind the ball. Sometimes he has to handle himself a little bit more, but he put in a great performance against Hellas Verona. He has extraordinary technical abilities.”
