Arsenal have started negotiations with Bukayo Saka over a new contract in a bid to tie him down for the long term.

The news comes just weeks after reports started to circulate that Saka could be the subject of interest from Liverpool, who are rumoured to be keen admirers of the 20-year-old. The England star has gone from strength to strength this term, which is all the more impressive considering his emotional summer on Three Lions duty at Euro 2020.

It was Saka who missed England's decisive spot-kick in the final against Italy, but he has barely shown signs of any lingering summer hangover as the Hale End graduate has arguably been Arsenal's best performer so far this season. The wide-man scored his 10th goal of the season in all competitions at the weekend to hand the Gunners a crucial away victory over Aston Villa.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have held talks with the player's representatives to try and thrash out the details of what would be a lengthy contract offer and prevent any interest from elsewhere. Saka's current deal sees him tied to the Emirates until 2023, though the club have another year they can choose to activate should they wish to.
