Arsenal old boy Martin Keown makes fourth-place pick and cites ‘consistency’

Arsenal legend Martin Keown thinks that Manchester United are favourites to finish above the Gunners in the top four this season.

Mikel Arteta’s men have won their last three games to keep the heat on United, who currently occupy fourth spot. The Gunners are just a point behind the men from Old Trafford with a game in hand.

Ralf Rangnick’s men will get the chance to open up that gap on Saturday at home to Watford, while Arsenal have to wait until a week on Sunday to face Watford themselves.

But their recent form has been good with two wins over Wolves and a success over Brentford. But Arteta’s men have been struggling for goals with just 38 goals from 24 games. They are the lowest scorers in the top six and they left it late to secure all three points against Wolves in midweek.

And Keown, who made over 400 appearances for Arsenal, believes that may well be their downfall in the race with United.

“I think Manchester United are in the boss seat,” Keown told talkSPORT, as cited by the Metro.

“I do because it’s about consistency. [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang has scored four goals in two games for Barcelona. Arsenal are still having a problem in front of goal.

“I don’t think [Alexandre] Lacazette has scored a goal in open play since December 12th. It’s a long time ago.

“I do feel they’re showing some great character, [Nicolas] Pepe coming off the bench [vs Wolves].

“Let’s see what happens, but Arsenal are still in the mix. I think that’s all the fans need right now – that hope and belief that they can maybe go on and do it.”
