‘I’ll be waiting for him’; pundit reveals how old-timers would deal with ‘out of order’ Tottenham star

Ray Parlour has added his voice to the criticism of Tottenham star Cristian Romero after his mocking of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

Maguire, 29, scored an own goal on 72 minutes to bring Spurs level for the second time at Old Trafford on Saturday. Romero rubbed salt in the wound by laughing in the England star’s face. However, the Red Devils had the last laugh as Cristiano Ronaldo bagged his hat-trick to give United a 3-2 triumph.

The Sky Sports pundits were not impressed with the South American.

“Not good, no,” Roy Keane said at full time. “Not good, getting all up for that. You remember. When you’re a player, you take note of that, don’t worry.”

And former Spurs defender Michael Dawson added: “It comes back to haunt you. Certainly as a defender, you make mistakes, things like that don’t go right. It could be you next week.”

Parlour was also scathing in his response to the incident.

“I think that’s bang out of order,” he told talkSPORT, per The Mail. “I don’t think I’d do that. It’s a big game for both sides but come on.

“I don’t know the situation but you don’t need to do that. Just take the goal and run away and celebrate with your team-mates.”

And the former Arsenal midfielder believes Romero will pay for his actions.

“I’m with Roy Keane,” he added. “I’ll be waiting for him in the next game, do him – boff.

“You can take him out though. Go for a tackle and get a yellow card for it. Don’t do it 100 per cent, just take him out.

“I got brought up in an era where you do that – Martin Keown, Tony Adams – they know exactly who’s taking the mickey out of people and they do him.”
