Arsenal legend Martin Keown sends warning to Man United after Carabao Cup win

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has warned Manchester United against getting complacent after winning the Carabao Cup at the weekend.

Erik ten Hag's men defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, with Casemiro and Marcus Rashford both getting on the scoresheet for the Reds. The Reds' second goal was initially marked down as a Sven Botman own goal, but it was later awarded to Rashford.

It was United's first trophy since 2017 - when they won the Europa League and EFL Cup - and Ten Hag's men still have the opportunity to win three more honours this term.

Despite this, Gunners legend Keown wanted to remind Reds fans that 'it's only the League Cup', admitting that he was slightly unimpressed given the club's run to the final.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "A lot of people are raving about Manchester United, and the United fans are going to say 'ah, typical Keown', but let's look at the League Cup and look at who they beat.

"So they beat Burnley at home, they beat Charlton at home, they beat Forest when they were way bottom of the table, not the best of teams. And now they are champions, they have won the Carabao Cup."

United secured a 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in the third round of the Carabao Cup, before beating Burnley 2-0 in the next round. Following that, Ten Hag's men overcame Charlton Athletic at home in the quarter-finals.

The Reds then faced Nottingham Forest in their semi-final tie and cruised to a 5-0 aggregate victory over the two legs.

While Keown was keen to dismiss talk of a quadruple this season, he did admit that United are heading in the right direction.
