Arsenal could make ‘late move' for £68m star at Emirates

Arsenal could make a ‘late move’ for Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino before September’s deadline, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Yellow Submarine have encountered financial difficulties and could be forced to sell their prized asset in a cut-price deal in order to balance the books.

Pino is believed to have an €80 million (£67.5m) release clause written into his Villarreal contract, yet transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently claimed he could be available for a significantly reduced fee.

“Many clubs have been following Yeremy Pino for months, he is a top player of the future that at least three Premier League clubs have been monitoring for some time,” wrote Romano.

“No proposals have been made yet to Villarreal, who would like more than €50m (£42m) for their young star, it will not be an easy negotiation.”

Pino enjoyed a breakout campaign under Unai Emery last season, racking up seven goals and four assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

And the 19-year-old has started 2022/23 in equally as impressive form, scoring the opening goal in a memorable 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Wando Metropolitano Stadium last time out.

Arsenal’s director of football Edu was spotted boarding a plane to Spain recently, sparking speculation that a deal for Pino is close, but Jacobs believes those theories are ‘jumping the gun’.

He told GiveMeSport: “If clubs wait, then obviously in a windows time or a year’s time, Villarreal may say, ‘actually it’s fine now, we can live with him, and we’re going back to the release clause’, which is 20 odd million more.

“So, that’s why we might see a late move for Pino, it’s definitely not impossible, but the over excitement that Edu has directly travelled to complete a deal
