Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hinted that he is anticipating another busy summer for the club in the transfer market, due to the fact they will almost certainly be back in Europe next season. The Gunners missed out on continental football for the first time in 25 years last season, but are poised to return to the European stage.

The club spent over £100 million last summer buying the likes of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard as Arsenal invested in youth with none of their summer acquisitions over the age of 24. The strategy has paid off with Arteta’s side currently fifth in the Premier League table, level on points with fourth placed Tottenham with a game in hand.

Regardless of whether Arsenal qualify for the Champions League or Europa League they will need a larger squad to compete domestically and in Europe. Balancing a return to continental competition with their improved form in the league will be Arteta’s next challenge; but the Gunners boss is confident that he will be given the funds to do so.
