Armed robbers target Co-op store then flee scene in Jaguar

Armed robbers targeted a Co-op store in Trafford then fled the scene in a Jaguar.

Police officers were called to the scene at the shop on Irlam Road in Flixton at around 10pm last night (Wednesday). A cordon was put in place around the Co-op after the armed robbery.

No-one was seriously injured and no arrests have been made. Police said the attack was 'targeted' and that there is not believed to be a wider risk to the public.

Officers believe the offenders fled the scene in a Jaguar, which was found further along Irlam Road near Irlam Locks. Anyone with information about the incident, or who has any footage or CCTV, is being urged to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Paul Costello of GMP’s Trafford district, said: “I want to reassure the local community that this fast-paced investigation is still in its early stages but we are making good progress to understand what has happened. We believe it was a targeted attack and there is no wider risk to the public.

"A Jaguar type vehicle is believed to have been used by the offenders and was recovered further along Irlam Road close to the area of Irlam Locks. We are conducting further searches of the area today and there will be a visible police presence as a result.

"I would urge any members of the local community who heard or saw anything last night, or who may have seen the vehicle in the area leading up to the incident to speak to our officers to ensure we can find those responsible."
