Armed police called and roads closed after 'man struck with firearm'

Armed police were scrambled to a number of streets in Salford after reports a man was assaulted with a firearm.

Road closures were put in place in the Cadishead and Irlam areas of Salford, with a police helicopter also deployed to the scenes.

Police said specialist firearms officers were deployed 'given the nature of the report' to police of the assault. No further details, however, have been provided.

"No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing - there is no information to suggest any threat to the wider community."

An appeal for anyone with information to come forward has now been issued.

A GMP spokesperson said: "If you have any information, please contact police on 101, quoting log 1796 of
