Armagh unsuccessful in O'Neill ban appeal

Armagh have failed in their attempts to have Rian O'Neill's proposed one-match ban overturned ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland group stage match with Galway.

The Crossmaglen forward was set to miss the Carrick-on-Shannon encounter having been sent off in the 29th minute of their round two loss to Tyrone after being cited for kneeling on Cormac Quinn.

The Orchard County opted to appeal, but the original sanction was upheld.

Kieran McGeeney's side could finish anywhere from first to fourth in Group 2 depending on results, with Tyrone and Westmeath also meeting at the same time.

Armagh, with the support of their opponents Galway, had requested that the game be moved from Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada to Croke Park, but that was quickly turned down by the GAA.

An attendance around the 10,000 mark has been set for the game, but tickets remain available.
