Armagh's Tiernan Kelly receives 24-week ban

Armagh's Tiernan Kelly has received a 24-week ban following an incident that occurred in last Sunday’s All-Ireland quarter-final.

Armagh lost to Galway after extra time and penalties in a game that looked over at the end of normal time.

Kelly was not among the Armagh panel but got involved in an on-pitch melee before extra-time and appeared to make contact with the face and eyes of Galway's Damien Comer.

RTÉ understands the categorised offence is' for acting dangerously towards an opponent’ and that both counties will receive €10,000 fines.

It has been confirmed that Armagh will accept the proposed bans, while the Galway senior football camp must now decide how to respond after the conclusion of an investigation by the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) following last weekend’s unsavoury scenes at Croke Park.

Armagh’s Conor Turbitt and Blaine Hughes and Galway’s Cathal Sweeney have all received proposed one-match penalties.

Three players received red cards in the game; Galway’s Sean Kelly and Armagh’s Greg McCabe and Aidan Nugent are expected to receive proposed one match suspensions as well.

Kelly was red-carded for "contributing to a melee" but Galway are likely to appeal as video footage shows him trying to stop others from getting involved.

With Galway facing Derry in the All-Ireland semi-final on 9 July, they will be keen to address these latest developments as quickly as possible.
