Are Rangers right to rule Frank Lampard out manager race and what did Aris flop tell us? Saturday Jury
David McCarthy: It told us that whoever comes in permanently has a monumental task on their hands. There is no evidence to suggest they will beat St Mirren tomorrow.
Michael Gannon: It didn’t tell us anything we didn’t know. This Rangers squad lacks confidence, quality and desire and whoever gets the job will need to work miracles. You wouldn’t stick a borrowed pound on them winning tomorrow.
Fraser Wilson: It was rock bottom for a group of players that need taken out the firing line. Some of them permanently. The injury list has tied Davis’ hands but this Rangers side is so far off the standards expected that a defeat to St Mirren would not be a surprise.
David: Absolutely. Where in his body of work as a manager is there evidence that Lampard would be able to come in and sort out the mess that any new boss will inherit?
Michael: Some of the Lampard bashing has been unfair as there’s a good coach in there. I’m just not sure this is the environment to show it though as Rangers don’t need another managerial gamble.
Fraser: He’s a big name that would command a big wage and perhaps attract big players but nothing Lampard has done in management suggests he would be a big success. Rangers need a proven manager.
David: Losing at home to Lazio was a hammer blow to their chances of even finishing third in the group. I can’t see them getting anything out of the two Atletico Madrid games, so to have any chance they’ll have to win in Rome and beat Feyenoord in Glasgow.
Michael: It’s going to be extremely difficult now after blowing a big chance the other night. They’ll need home wins against Atletico and Feyenoord plus maybe a point in Rome. I wouldn’t be betting on it.
Fraser: There should be at least a point on the board
